Generic Effexor XR (Venlor XR Capsules) – Product Information
Generic Effexor XR is used in the treatment and prevention of relapse of depression. Effexor XR (venlafaxine hydrochloride) extended-release capsules is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder, also known as Social Phobia as well as for the treatment of panic disorder. It is also used for the prevention of relapses of the initial episode of depression or for the prevention of the recurrence of new depressive episodes. The active ingredient present in Generic Effexor XR is Venlafaxine Hydrochloride. Venlor XR is manufactured by Cipla Ltd. in strengths of 37.5 mg, 75 mg and 150 mg. The capsules contain venlafaxine hydrochloride equivalent to 37.5 mg, 75 mg, or 150 mg venlafaxine respectively.
Generic Effexor XR - Contraindications
Generic Effexor XR is contraindicated in patients that have hypersensitivity to Venlafaxine Hydrochloride or any inactive component of this medicine. Concomitant use with MAOIs is also contraindicated. Generic Effexor XR is also contraindicated in patients aged below 18 years, patients with very high risk of a serious cardiac ventricular arrhythmia, uncontrolled hypertension.
Generic Effexor XR (Venlor XR Capsules) - Dosage
Generic Effexor XR should be administered in a single dose with food either in the morning or in the evening at approximately the same time each day. Each capsule should be swallowed whole with fluid and not divided, crushed, chewed, or placed in water. The dosage varies as per the indication being treated.The recommended dosage of Venlor XR Capsules for various indications is given below:
Major Depressive Disorder:
For most patients, the recommended starting dose for Effexor XR is 75 mg/day, administered in a single dose.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder:
For most patients, the recommended starting dose for Effexor XR is 75 mg/day, administered in a single dose.
Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia):
The recommended dose of Generic Effexor XR (Venlafaxine Hydrochloride) is 75 mg/day, administered in a single dose.
Panic Disorder:
The recommended initial dose of Generic Effexor XR is a single dose of 37.5 mg/day for 7 days.
Side Effects of Generic Effexor XR
The adverse events most commonly associated with Venlor XR (Generic Effexor XR Capsules)administration are nervous system complaints, such as headache, dizziness, insomnia, somnolence, nervousness and dry mouth; gastrointestinal complaints, including anorexia, nausea and constipation; and abnormal ejaculation/orgasm, sweating and asthenia. Many of the frequently observed adverse events are dose related. With continued theatment, these adverse effects generally decrease in frequency and intensity, and usually do not require discontinuation.
