Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler) – Product Information

Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler, manufactured by Cipla Ltd.) is a combination products which contains a corticosteroid and a Long-acting beta 2-adrenergic agonists (LABA) indicated for treatment of asthma in patients aged 12 years and older. It is also used in the treatment of Chronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
The active ingredients present in Generic Advair Inhaler are Fluticasone Propionate and Salmeterol Xinafoate.
Fluticasone Propionate and Salmeterol Xinafoate inhaler is marketed under trade names such as Advair, Seretide, Seroflo, Viani, Adoair, Quikhale SF and Foxair.

Dosage And Administration

Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler) comes as an inhaler in 50, 125 and 250 mcg dosage forms.
Seroflo inhalers contain Salmeterol Xinafoate 25 mcg (fixed) and the quantity of Fluticasone Propionate is 50 mcg, 125 mcg or 250 mcg. Seroflo inhaler contains 120 metered doses. Seroflo multihalers contain Salmeterol Xinafoate 50 mcg (fixed) and the quantity of Fluticasone Propionate is 250 mcg or 500 mcg. Seroflo multihaler contains 30 metered doses. The recommended dosage of Generic Advair Inhaler for adults is given below:
Dosage for Treatment of Asthma: Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older):
Seroflo 50 Inhaler: Two inhalations twice daily
Seroflo 125 Inhaler: Two inhalations twice daily
Dosage for Treatment of Asthma: Children (4 years and older)
Seroflo 50 Inhaler: Two inhalations twice daily
Not recommended for children below 4 years of age.
Dosage for Treatment of COPD: Adults:
Seroflo 125 inhaler: Two inhalations twice daily
Seroflo 250 Inhaler: Two inhalations twice daily

Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler) - Contraindications

Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler) is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Salmeterol Xinafoate or Fluticasone Propionate or any other ingredient present in Seroflo Inhaler. It is also contraindicated in persons with a severe hypersensitivity to milk proteins. Primary treatment of status asthmaticus or acute episodes of asthma or COPD requiring intensive measures using Seroflo Inhaler is also contraindicated.

Generic Advair Inhaler - Warnings and Precautions

Before using Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler) please inform your doctor of your medical history specially with regard to the following:
current/past infections (such as tuberculosis, herpes), high blood pressure, bone loss (osteoporosis), heart disease (such as chest pain, heart attack, irregular heartbeat), overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), diabetes, eye problems (such as cataracts, glaucoma), seizures, liver disease.
The other warnings and precautions are:

  • Salmeterol may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). QT prolongation can infrequently result in serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that need medical attention right away.
  • LABA increase the risk of asthma-related death and asthma-related hospitalizations. Seroflo should not be used in combination with an additional medicine containing LABA because of risk of overdose.
  • Seroflo Inhaler should not be used to initiate treatment in acutely deteriorating asthma or COPD or to treat acute symptoms.
  • Patients should be monitored periodically as Candida albicans infection of the mouth and pharynx may occur. Patient have to be advised to rinse his/her mouth with water without swallowing after inhalation to help reduce the risk.
  • Patients should be monitored for signs and symptoms of pneumonia as there is increased risk of pneumonia in patients with COPD.
  • Potential worsening of infections (e.g., existing tuberculosis; fungal, bacterial, viral, or parasitic infection; ocular herpes simplex). Use with caution in patients with these infections. More serious or even fatal course of chickenpox or measles can occur in susceptible patients.
  • If paradoxical bronchospasm occurs, discontinue Seroflo Inhaler (Generic Advair Inhaler ) and institute alternative therapy.
  • Risk of impaired adrenal function when transferring from systemic corticosteroids.
  • Hypercorticism and adrenal suppression may occur with very high dosages or at the regular dosage in susceptible individuals. If such changes occur, discontinue Seroflo slowly.
  • Seroflo is to be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular or central nervous system disorders because of beta-adrenergic stimulation.

Side Effects of Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler)

Generic Advair Inhaler (Fluticasone Propionate and Salmeterol Xinafoate) may cause side effects. The common posssible side effects reported in patients treated with Generic Advair Inhaler (Seroflo Inhaler) include runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, throat irritation, sinus pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, muscle and bone pain, dizziness, weakness, tiredness, sweating, tooth pain, red or dry eyes, shaking of a part of your body that you cannot control and sleep problems.
Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following side effects, call your doctor immediately: coughing, wheezing, or chest tightness that begins soon after you inhale fluticasone and salmeterol, hives, rash, swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs, choking or difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, noisy, high-pitched breathing pounding fast, or irregular heartbeat, fainting, chest pain, cough, burning or tingling in the hands or feet, blurred vision, white patches in the mouth, fever, chills, and other signs of infection.
