Generic Lipitor (Atorlip Tablets) – Product Information

The active ingredient present in Atorlip Tablets is Atorvastatin Calcium .
Generic Lipitor tablets can lower the risk for heart attack, stroke, certain types of heart surgery, and chest pain in patients who have heart disease or risk factors for heart disease such as age, smoking, high blood pressure, low HDL, or family history of early heart disease. Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin Calcium) tablets can also lower the risk for heart attack or stroke in patients with diabetes and risk factors such as diabetic eye or kidney problems, smoking, or high blood pressure.
Generic Lipitor is also available as Atoris, Lipvas, Sortis, Torvast, Torvacard, Tortalip and Tulip. Atorlip Tablets are available in strengths of 5 mg, 10 mg , 20 mg and 40 mg. Each film-coated tablet contains Atorvastatin calcium equivalent to Atorvastatin 5 mg, 10 mg , 20 mg, 40 mg respectively.

Uses Of Generic Lipitor Tablets

Generic Lipitor (Atorlip Tablets) are indicated along with diet changes to reduce the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in blood. This reduces or prevents Cardiovascular Diseases. In particular Atorlip tablets reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, revascularization procedures, and angina. Drug therapy is recommended as an adjunct to diet when the response to a diet restricted in saturated fat and cholesterol and other non-pharmacologic measures alone has proved to be inadequate.

Generic Lipitor (Atorlip Tablets) - Dosage And Administration

The recommended starting dose of Generic Lipitor (Atorlip Tablets) in adult patients is 10 or 20 mg once daily. Patients that require large Low-Density-Lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) reduction (>45%) can start at 40 mg once daily. The recommended starting dose for pediatric patients is 10 mg once daily; maximum recommended dose: 20 mg once daily.

Atorlip Tablets (Generic Lipitor)- Contraindications

The use of Generic Lipitor is contraindicated in patiennts that have a hypersensitivity to Atorvastatin calcium or any other component of this medication. Generic Lipitor (Atorlip Tablets) are also contraindicated in persons with Active liver disease, Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and Nursing mothers.

Warnings And Precautions

Skeletal muscle effects:
Risks increase when higher doses are used concomitantly with cyclosporine, fibrates, and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, itraconazole, HIV protease inhibitors). Predisposing factors include advanced age (> 65), uncontrolled hypothyroidism, and renal impairment. Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria have been reported. In cases of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, therapy should be temporarily withheld or discontinued.
Liver enzyme abnormalities and monitoring:
Persistent elevations in hepatic transaminases can occur. Monitor liver enzymes before and during treatment. A higher incidence of hemorrhagic stroke was seen in patients without CHD but with stroke or TIA within the previous 6 months in the Lipitor 80 mg group vs. placebo.

Generic Lipitor Tablets (Atorlip) Side Effects

The most commonly reported side effects in patients undergoing treatment with Generic Lipitor tablets with an incidence rate of 2% or more were: nasopharyngitis, arthralgia, diarrhea, pain in extremity, and urinary tract infection.
