Generic Zyprexa Tablets (Oleanz Tablets) – Product Information

Generic Zyprexa (Oleanz Tablets, manufactured by SUN Pharma) is used for the treatment of schizophrenia (a mental disease that causes disturbed or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or inappropriate emotions) as well as acute treatment of manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder in adults and adolescents between the ages of 13 to 17 years.
It is also used as an adjunct to valproate or lithium in the treatment of manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adults. Generic Zyprexa (Oleanz Tablets) is used in Combination with Fluoxetine for the treatment of depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder.
The active ingredient present in Generic Zyprexa is Olanzapine. Olanzapine belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It acts by altering the activity of certain natural substances present in the brain.

Generic Zyprexa Tablets (Oleanz Tablets) - Contraindications

Generic Zyprexa is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Olanzapine or any other ingredient present in the product.

Generic Zyprexa Tablets (Oleanz Tablets) - Dosage

Oleanz comes as an oral tablet in of 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg dosage forms. Generic Zyprexa (Oleanz Tablets) should be administered on a once-a-day schedule without regard to meals. The recommended adult Oral dosage of Generic Zyprexa for adults is given below:

Dosage for Treatment of Schizophrenia in adults:
Start at 5-10 mg once daily;
Target: 10 mg/day within several days
Dosage for Treatment of Schizophrenia in adolescents:
Oral: Start at 2.5-5 mg once daily;
Target: 10 mg/day

Dosage for Bipolar I Disorder (manic or mixed episodes) in adults:
Start at 10 or 15 mg once daily
Dosage Bipolar I Disorder (manic or mixed episodes) in adolescents:
Start at 2.5-5 mg once daily;
Target: 10 mg/day
Dosage for Treatment of Bipolar I Disorder (manic or mixed episodes) with lithium or valproate in adults
Start at 10 mg once daily.

Side Effects of Generic Zyprexa Tablets

The most common possible side effects reported in patients treated with Generic Zyprexa Tablets (Oleanz Tablets) (5% and more and at least twice that for placebo) associated with treatment of various indications:
Oral Olanzapine Monotherapy:
Schizophrenia (Adults): postural hypotension, constipation, weight gain, dizziness, personality disorder, akathisia
Schizophrenia (Adolescents): sedation, weight increased, headache, increased appetite, dizziness, abdominal pain, pain in extremity, fatigue, dry mouth
Manic or Mixed Episodes, Bipolar I Disorder (Adults):
asthenia, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite, somnolence, dizziness, tremor
Manic or Mixed Episodes, Bipolar I Disorder (Adolescents):
sedation, weight increased, increased appetite, headache, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, abdominal pain, pain in extremity
Combination of Generic Zyprexa and Lithium or Valproate:
